Hi Steven. Yes, unfortunately, not all mobile carriers support 7726 yet. Cloudmark is continuing to work with the GSMA to encourage adoption of 7726 and to make it easier for end users to report SMS spam. For more details see our blog post from March last year: http://blog.cloudmark.com/2010/03/25/mobile-spam-7726/

Could you post the entire source of the message for review? This post is much appreciated, but just describing what's inside the message doesn't help anyone, neither does security by obscurity as I'm sure you know already. I'm sure many people besides myself would appreciate the opportunity to analyze the full raw content of the message, however redacting identifying information, by changing ip addresses to nonsense numbers etc, is fine.

This is a really interesting demonstration as it shows us a glimpse of the future where messaging threats will have real world, physical consequences as opposed to simply being irritating or fraudulent.

I Chair the DMA's Mobile Council and are working closely with the regulators and operators to address this problem. Just to clarify the activity of selling personal details, we do not believe that leads passed on by insurers are responsible for these unsolicited messages. The ones you describe in your post are attempting to create leads which are sold on to solicitors or claims management companies. The insurers sell the customer data directly to the solicitors or claims firms, so it is further along the chain than the spam SMS. Please drop me a line if you want more information!
