My mobile number is registered with the Telephone Preference Service and has been for years. Optical Express are still spamming it with SMS messages.

The ICO are usually not that much help with issues like this.

The only effect measure is to inform the persons you spoke that the SMS messages must stop. If they do not stop you will invoice that person £125 for each SMS message received.

Make it perfectly clear that you will invoice THEM for any further spam. This is the only way to get true results.

Hmm, OE just SPAMmed in close succession me on multiple email addresses where it is clear that they could not be legitimately opted in and indeed in one case seems like a crude attempt to circumvent security.

I’ve made a section 11 request to them but I expect to be roundly ignored, but maybe if we both put in a complaint to the ICO someone in the marketing department would get a good kicking if many many hours of senior management time got absorbed… I have a some success with the ICO in the past.

Is any of this data being used to actually block SMS from spammers?

The impression I’ve received from AT&T is that the spammers pay the providers for SMS services, and the recipients pay the providers to receive each spam, and so the providers are happy with the status quo.
